Mister Overprotective.

So we were at dog school tonight when a very energetic dog decided to approach Indy and me. What does my wonderful well socialised dog do a sorta snarl slash growl at this innocent golden retriever. I was so confused. Then the trainer explained, he's being protective of me. He doesn't want the other dog to hurt me or knock me over. he's being a little bit overprotective to my mind. But now I understand other things he's done like move around me sometimes to get between me and others. Just another aspect of life with my furry genius. though I wonder how he'll handle visiting my brother and his exuberant border collie

  1. Hi Chloe, Thanks for creating this great blog. I've enjoyed reading it. I'm Angel's mom Cheryl. Thank you for the recipes for Angel's Celebrity Charity Cookbook. It's great to have you and Indy in the book. Angel's service dog Jelly Bean gets over protective of Angel as well. Sometimes this is a problem, such as when her friends try to wrestle around with her. So now everyone has been told, no wrestling or pushing. We don't want Jelly Bean to think Angel's in danger when she isn't. he tries to get in between her and her friends when he thinks he needs to help out. he is also most settled and happiest when he's working or when he's playing ball. So now we keep him in work mode all day long at home, unless he's going outside to play ball or having a bathroom break. We can sure relate to many of the things you have written about. some times we go out without Jelly Bean because he's already had a long day or because the place we are going to is too busy with kids running all over and lots of noise, and everyone asks where Jelly Bean is and why he's not with Angel. Some people assume this means he isn't needed or that he will lose his training skills. That's not true at all. Sometimes both him and Angel need breaks from each other and he does need down time to rest. ANd when it's too hot outside we don't take him anywhere outside of the house so that he feels comfortable and isn't put at risk from heat exhaustion. It's good to know someone else that has a service dog and can relate to the things that you experience, isn't it.

take care and have a great week,
    Angel's mom Cheryl
